Welcome! My name is Emily Schmiderer and I founded Acorn in 2016 out of a desire to bring together my love of teaching young children and my love of being in nature.

I work with Acorn children Mondays-Fridays 9:00-3:00. From 3:00-5:00, I am on campus both doing my Director related desk work as well as supporting Acorn’s afternoon teachers as needed.

In addition to a Masters Degree in Education and being NY State Certified to teacher Pre K-6th grade, I have spent the last 35+ years sharing my daily life with children under the age of six. For 20+ years I was a classroom teacher of Preschool, Kindergarten, 1st Grade and Ethics; I spent 10 years at home with my own young children (who are now teenagers and adults); and now I run Acorn!

I am delighted to share my land and my heart with Acorn! I take great pride in Acorn Nature School… the quality care we provide and the community we share together.
